Project Info

Project Description

Southern Communications was established in 1965 and for over 50 years, development, innovation, new technology, performance and expertise have made the business a leading specialist in the provision of business to business cloud, data, voice and mobile communications. Aurora has worked with Southern Communications since September 2004 providing a unified billing, provisioning and customer care platform. Aurora has supported Southern Communications through frequent business growth and Affinity has continually provided a robust, reliable and scalable billing platform.

REQUIRED BUSINESS OUTCOME

Southern have boosted revenues from £10m to £32m in the last five years driven by organic growth and acquisiiton. They now plan to double these revenues moving forward and as part of this growth plan they have installed a new IT infrastructure which will support future ambitions. Subsequently this meant their Affinity billing platform was required to move to another server within their new IT environment. Aurora helped with the installation of Affinity and configured and tested it against Southern Communication’s new IT infrastructure.

SOLUTION

Aurora’s architecture team worked with Southern Communication’s IT team to support the various steps of the relocation process including carrying out the following tasks: Configuration of SQL server and file shares Configuration of WLR3 server Configuration of billing engines Creation and deployment of new loader for users to access Affinity Configuration of non-billing Affinity services Testing of WLR3 processes Tesitng of billing This was a complicated project ensuring all user accounts had the appropriate level of access and the current WLR3 server was moved to the new infrastructure without disrupting business activity and customers’ billing requirements.

BUSINESS OUTCOME

Aurora‘s help with the installation of Affinity to Southern Communication’s new infrastructure has improved network and hardware speeds and enables the system to cope with at least double the number of billing instances in the future. Aurora’s support and guidance also enabled the process to move quickly and switly which freed up Southern Communication’s IT team to work on moving other internal systems and platforms.

“With substantial growth over the last 5 years and an even more aggressive expansion strategy for the next 5 years, it was imperative that Southern Communications had the right IT infrastructure to support the business. We aligned our IT strategy to the business plans and embarked on a move from traditional direct attached disk hardware to an easily expandable storage array in conjunction with complete adoption of virtualisation technologies.

We needed 100% confidence that our solution would be scalable, robust and offer exceptional performance so it was key that we worked closely with our long term, trusted partner, Aurora. Together we designed, specified and benchmarked the solution and the knowledge of Aurora’s highly skilled and experienced engineers was invaluable in this process.

The final migration of all processing and historical data was well planned and executed by all parties. An important factor in this was the flexibility and availability of key Aurora staff which included a significant amount of work during unsocial hours. The smooth transition and ongoing support confirmed our initial selection and continued relationship with Aurora is a key element in the success of Southern Communications”.
